Nov 16, 2022

In its report titled “Identify the Mobile Apps and Categories Defying the Economic Slump,” Data.ai emphasizes mobile applications during the economic downturn. The most spent apps continue to be mobile games.

The mobile app industry is not immune to inflation, and there are already indications of a slowdown in the economy that will impact all publishers and sizes of apps.

In all areas, mobile gaming remains a substantial source of spending. Hyper-casual games are the most popular installs in the first half of 2022. The “puzzle” genre is highlighted in the Data.ai study, with titles like 2048 in the lead.

The MOBA genre, represented by Tencent’s Honor of Kings, which has consistently topped the charts, also witnessed the most yearly expenditure growth in the Strategy 4X March-Battle genre and open-world RPGs with the lead title Genshin Impact.

The kinds of games that mobile players spend their time and money on have changed, according to Data.ai. The amount of time people spend playing creative sandbox games has grown. ROBLOX is a well-known member of the category. However, players are now spending less time overall playing games in the Battle Royale genre.
